About the Apparatus
The fabric used commonly called an Aerial Hammock, Sling or Swing are made of a premium low stretch fabric used in Aerial Silk acts. Aerial Silks are a traditional apparatus seen in circuses and popularized today by the media and performances by artists like Pink. At Give Yoga Memphis we use the highest quality hardware to suspend the fabric and the body. Each rig can sustain up to 5,000 pounds.
About the Movement
Aerial Yoga is a relatively new practice that combines the athleticism and agility of circus acrobatics and the grace and mental focus of yoga. The fabric station uses the weight of the body and the pull of gravity to train strength, flexibility, opening in a fun and high vibrancy practice. After just one practice the relief of compressed joints and the realigning of the spinal column leaves one rejuvenated and energized. After continued practice one will see the increased flexibility, heightened spatial awareness, core and arm strength and all over muscle tone.
A regular class is modified for the participants. Private classes and lessons can be created for a range of specific goals. Rehabilitation, flexibility, core strength and work on the axis/center are all attributes that can be focused on. All sessions incorporate a warm up, grounding, opening and recovery (or relaxation) using techniques from traditional yoga asanas, kriyas and acrobatic/aerial training.
